The significance of Reel Bad Arabs is immense in tackling the stereotypes of Muslims in America. For instance, it tries to reduce the misconception that all the Muslims are terrorists. The film also helps in reducing the damaging Arab myth as an enemy of the America. The actions and the various scenes reinforced the prejudicial attitudes relating to Arabs and the Muslim. It leads to a narrow perspective towards the Islam, more so through the U.S domestic and international practices. Before the occurrence of the 9/11 tragic events, there was wide ignorance about the Muslims and the Arab nations (Gottschalk and Gabriel 76). It also develops a strong argument to enhance popular culture to counter the long-term racist stereotypes. It would article the long-term problem of vilifying Arab people in the western countries. It would highly recommend that the Americans treat the Arabs as well as accepting their religious and cultural values.
Moreover, it is also significant in implying the Middle East as a land of cultural complexity with people who do not understand the Western cultures and values. The film uses narration, which describes that Arabs occupies a land of a harsh situation. It also deals with the stereotype of Arab men treating the women unfairly. Arab women are equal to their male counterparts towards dealing with stereotypes about Muslims gender issues. For example, the film brings about positive images toward the perception of the Arab Americans. As a result, the viewership and understanding of the Reel Bad Arabs are critical in the reevaluation of the stereotypes of Muslims living in America.
These narratives are relevant in understanding its implications on the American history of the society today. The film also warns that the Arabs, more so the Muslims are terrorists who are always planning to destroy the western countries including the destruction of the United States. Such media stereotypes allow the viewers and audience to support the manipulation of the policymakers to develop a good justification of the U.S imperialism. Under the ideological argument, the Arab culture is not a major issue. The main issues are to promote the freedom and democracy to justify the U.S cultural exportation. It also emphasizes on the existing perceptions about the Arabs within the society. The Arabs have been portrayed as the real enemies of U.S growth.
Additionally, it assists in changing the American history perception on the treatment of women equally. The movie appreciates the need to treat women equally. For instance, today, the Arab world women attend higher education at the same level as men. This is important in confronting the unresolved issues associated with women’s rights. For years now, the U.S soldiers have been fighting the Arabs and their terror groups due to the animosity between Washington and the Arab nations. However, the film can reveal that the Americans can relate well with the Arabs. This narrative also helps in eliminating the vile image, which has always been perpetuated about the relationships between U.S and the Muslims.
The Americans also understands the political and financial barriers, which affects the influence of the media on the Arab relations. It also indicates that the persistence of these film images over several times to naturalize the attitudes relating to Arabs and their Arab culture (Selod and David 646). It involves the processing of promoting the power of Arabs and their impacts on the U.S policies. Most importantly, it suggests that the views should develop a counter strategy to promote diversity and humanity of Arab people and the complexity of the Arab history. Therefore, the narrative will be important to improve the analysis of American history within the society today.
