Abstract: Article Critique Summary
The main research question was to determine the efficiency of collaborative strategic reading among the middle school students. To enhance improved reading comprehension, the authors conducted an experimental study to evaluate the impacts of multicomponent reading measures. The collaborative strategic reading includes designing instruction visible, the creation of procedural strategies, use of interactive groups, and the provision of opportunities for interactive discussion among the teachers and students.
The authors used the experimental methodology to analyze the impacts of collaborative strategic reading and learning on the reading comprehension of the students (Vaughn et al., 2011). The research methodology involved in the assigning the students to the random classes and the classes were allocated to comparison groups. The participants in the research study included 17 teachers including three males and 14 females.
The researcher found out that there were significant differences in the support of the treatment students on reading comprehension test but not on reading fluency. It also determined that the impact of CSR on reading comprehension dependent on the knowledge of students on the strategic reading measures (Vaughn et al., 2011). Apart from all, the findings of the research indicated that CSR was a reliable and effective practice that could be easily integrated into language arts discussion and reading. Another finding was that the schools had limited resources and time to support instructional practices, which requires changes on the teachers and resources.
Moreover, I think these authors had strong credibility for their conclusions due to the evidence and information obtained from the experimental study. The research data and information were useful in supporting the conclusions of authors in the research. The findings of this research strongly influence my thinking on the impacts of collaborative strategic reading in middle schools. I was able to understand that CSR contributes to the improved comprehension and building of background knowledge, which might be more efficacious. Therefore, I could conclude that collaborate strategic reading was influential among the middle schools.
