PAD 520 Discussion 4
Question#1
An article by Rizzolo(2015) discusses the various opportunities and measures to implemented to restore the education sector. It indicates that education has not been enabled to fulfill the expected opportunities in the society. For example, Rizzolo records that the American public believes in the public schools should take significant efforts to educate all children at the highest level possible. Most importantly, it records some of the challenges inhibiting the delivery of quality education. Some of the problems include the lack of funding, dynamic expectations, uncertainties and the lack of engagements.
For example, only around 5 percent of voters take part in the elections at the local school board membership. The elections end up giving unsuitable candidates to operate the school boards. Personally, I think the federal and state governments should avoid the politicization of the education system. Since, it makes it difficult to tackle the problems ailing education. The government officials should understand the importance of childhood education. Therefore, I support the ideas of the article that the federal and state governments should develop new strategies to improve the educational opportunities.

Question#2: Combating Childhood Obesity
Problem Statement: Childhood obesity has become a major health condition and thus, increasing the risk of numerous chronic diseases. The federal government should develop a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to combat the increasing rates of childhood obesity.
The issue of combating childhood obesity involves the various stakeholders including parents, teachers, education administrators, the government, and the overall public. Parents will need to protect their children from the risks of getting chronic diseases from being obese. Teachers and education administrators are always concerned about the health of the children (Barry, Brescoll, & Gollust, 2013). The government and public will worry about the health and productivity of the children in the future to promote the growth of the economy.
To evaluate the problem, I would use both qualitative and quantitative data and information collected from schools. The information will provide clear trend and patterns to the prevalence of childhood obesity. For instance, it will indicate the current strategies being used to combat childhood obesity.
