Discussion Board – Judaism Part Two
Response to Awatef Almalki
I think Awatef Almalki’s post on the main questions relating to the development of Judaism is appropriate. It discusses some of the main concepts in the history of Judaism. For example, the first question indicates that the Jews believed that they have a second perspective that supports their connection with divinity. On the other hand, the non-Jews lack an appropriate relationship with God. Medieval is the duration from 632AD to 1650. Some of the foreign cultures that influenced the Medieval Judaism were interactions with other religions, music, and fashions. Most importantly, the post questions the impacts of modernity on Judaism. Modernity has brought about diversity as well as the adoption of technology. Such developments have deteriorated the value of Judaism in the society. The post can be used to understand the trend of Judaism towards expanding the religious aspects. I support the arguments raised by the post in understanding the nature of the modernity in Judaism.
Response to Nadeszka Weah
Similarly, I think Nadeszka Weah’s post raises some valid questions towards understanding the impacts of modernity on the Judaism, but it does not offer questions to examine the historical background of Judaism. The author sought to understand the Sabbath day that starts on Friday evening until Saturday. It takes place in the synagogue. Most importantly, the post seeks to appreciate the impact of the modern styles on the values and beliefs of Orthodox Judaism. This is relevant in understanding the impacts of modern styles on the growth and development of Judaism in the society. Weah’s post also examines the three main rituals relied upon by Orthodox Jews. I agree with the discussion on Reform Judaism that is beneficial in gaining in-depth knowledge on the changing takes place in Judaism today. Therefore, I appreciate the impact of modernity on the changes in Judaism as indicated in post.
