Dorothy Day and Catholic Worker Movement liturgy and prayer as the source for change and social justice.

Order Description

draw nice connections between her movement and her broader cultural and historical context.

Since ours is a class on liturgy and culture, I encourage you to probe deeper her specific connection to the liturgical movement and her view of the liturgy at large.

Here are some questions to inspire your research:

Is there evidence that the liturgical movement directly inspired her and if so, in what way? Did she in any way impact the liturgical movement?

What does she write about the liturgy / liturgical movement? I include below one short text but you should research this topic more:

Do her correspondences with the Benedictines like Virgil Michel offer any insight? You might even want to reach out to the Archivist at St John’s Abbey, Brother David Klingeman for help obtaining some of her letters.
The research paper should be on a topic closely related to the course and approved by the professor. Exploring some aspect of the inter-relationship between liturgy and culture, the paper should include theological and methodological reflection, historical context and whenever possible, comparative examples from other liturgical traditions. The paper should demonstrate the ability to do research at a graduate level and the ability to present substantial content in a clear and coherent manner. The paper topic should be narrowly defined and its argument explicit and convincing.
