How are the nomads (in Rubruck’s experience) organized differently from the way others imagine them to be?
How are the nomads (in Rubruck’s experience) organized differently from the way others imagine them to be? (William Rubruck journey to land of Tartars is available at this site http://ift.tt/2ygCvwN) See also source #77 (John of Plano) for comparison. How do the nomads’ religious beliefs/practices reflect (or are influenced by) their geographical setting or the environment in which they live? Did their life style/social structure/gender relations partly reflect the environment in which they lived, and if so, in what way was this the case? Why did natural phenomena such as thunder/lightening affect them the way they did? Is Rubruck, in your opinion, quite impressed/appalled by the Mongols he met in his travels? Finally, how does the image of Tamarlane, a would-be state builder, (Source #82) fit into the picture that has been painted for us by Rubruck?
