Order Description

Purpose: The purpose of the position paper is to consolidate personal reflection, your understanding of the policy context in which Indigenous education priorities are
set, and to explore the application of Indigenous perspectives in the Early Childhood Education learning area .
• 26 October 2016 (notes from assessment workshop):
o If you don’t want to focus on your learning area and would like to focus on broader or separate issue (or theme) e.g. literacy, family and community engagement,
that’s ok
o There should be a link, or narrative thread, that ties the issues you raise in your policy summary (e.g. high expectations, early childhood, the importance of
language/cultural identity) to the issues, literature, opportunities, strategies in your learning area
Assessment Details
The paper should include:
• A short personal statement (300 to 500 words) which reflects on your learning and summarises your learning, values and future actions in the area of Indigenous
education
• A summary of the policy context (500 to 1000 words) which describes current Indigenous education policies (you can draw on local, state, national or international
policies)
• An analysis of Indigenous perspectives in your learning area (1500 to 1700 words) which identifies curriculum content, pedagogies or family engagement strategies you
propose to adopt in your discipline area.

Personal Statement
• 15 marks
• Quality of sources chosen; Indigenous perspectives
Policy Context
• 15 marks
• Concise summary identifying policy directions, limitations and opportunities established by governments and other relevant organisations
Analysis and Interpretation
• 20 marks
• Critical thinking, engagement with theory and practice, identification of opportunities within your learning area to incorporate Indigenous perspectives
Communication
• 10 marks
• Correct spelling, length, sentence structure, punctuation, referencing style
