Technology Professional Interview Assignment
The goal of this assignment is for you to gain a sense of ‘a day in the life of’ You- in your future career as a technology professional Your task is to locate a district or school technology professional (e.g. technology coach, technology specialist or technology coordinator) and interview this individual. You will need to spend some time with this individual over the course of an entire day to determine firsthand the major tasks this person does (Spending a whole day may be impossible: see note at the end, below.)
Your goal is to find out what this individual's major responsibilities are and to gain a sense of what the technology professional does. The questions you ask should be specific to tech professionals and not to the specific one you are interviewing. E.g. asking what they are going to do about the broken computers in the lab is specific to your concerns, not the overall tasks of tech professionals.
In developing your questions, review the ISTE Program Standards for Preparation of Technology Coach Standards. Use the interview to help you show your mastery of the concepts in the standards. Additionally, as background, review the technology plan of the school or district. If not possible, please explain why.
Your deliverable will be an essay that analyzes your findings and evaluates the implications for your own career. Be sure to include quotations from your interviewee as support for your conclusions, and bring in your readings where appropriate. Please do NOT provide a transcript of the interview.
Note: An objective of EDTC 630 is to prepare students for technology leadership through experiences in a school setting. Shadowing a tech professional would be GREAT, but it is not always feasible - especially if you are supposed to be teaching all day. Do the best you can. Interview is required, but shadowing is optional.
