Prof Intro to Discussion: 
Where love (or any emotion) is present, its opposite is usually lurking nearby--earthly life being one of contrasts. 
These contrasting states (in our case, love and hate) are readily observed in many of Shakespeare's works. Contrasts are clearly on view in his tragic love drama Romeo and Juliet. 
Those emotions are so accessible, in part, because readers view the lovers' actions through the lens of their own young-love memories.
