7.01: Identifying BIOS Ram” and “7.02: Accessing BIOS via the CMOS Setup Program

In this exercise, you will complete lab exercises “7.01: Identifying BIOS Ram” and “7.02: Accessing BIOS via the CMOS Setup Program” from your lab manual. In lab exercise 7.01, start at Step 2 on page 88. Ignore the removal and replacement of the computer case, and instead reboot your system. When the first data appears on the screen, press the PAUSE/BREAK key on the keyboard. Continue following the lab exercise instructions in Step 2.
Note: Do not change any of your BIOS settings; merely view the screens, and report what you see.
When you have finished exercise 7.01, write a brief explanation of your computer’s BIOS information in a Microsoft Word document including the following:
1. Is there a more recent version of the BIOS available? If so, what is it? If not, why not? 2. Copy and paste the BIOS information from the computer manufacturer’s website. 3. Explain what information is available at the manufacturer’s website about your computer’s BIOS. If the information is not available, go to the BIOS manufacturer’s website for this information (see Figure 7-2 on page 89, on where to find BIOS information).
Next, begin lab exercise 7.02 on page 90 of your lab manual. Record your answers on the same Word document:
1. Which key or combinations of keys did you need to use to enter the CMOS setup program? 2. Describe each entry that you see on the main CMOS screen (i.e., time, date, language, drives, etc.) 3. Complete Steps 3 and 4, recording your findings in your Word document.
