1. Using an unbiased perspective of both teachers, what do you think is the cause of this conflict?
I think the cause of this conflict is lack of communication between the teachers. Communication builds understanding of the different each teacher will play in the classroom. I also think a lack of a classroom planning and management maybe a cause as well.
2. Discuss a plan for communicating effectively with the co-teacher using what you’ve learned so far including how you will document the meeting and a follow- up plan to reevaluate your team’s success.
Since school has already started, the teachers should come up with a plan for the next 3 months of school. Assign jobs that each teacher will play in the classroom. An example can be, one teacher can responsible for small writing activity each week; where the other teacher can be responsible for doing another group that focuses on directing a lesson with other students. This is a time for both teachers to be united as they there interact with the students. Using, “Parallel Co-teaching - where support personnel and the classroom teacher instruct different heterogeneous groups of students and Complementary Co-teaching - where a member of the co-teaching team does something to supplement or complement the instruction provided by the other member of the team (e.g., models note taking on a transparency, paraphrases the other co-teacher’s statements)” is a great way to start off co-teaching (Villa, n.d.).
During those three months, the teachers should set the tone of the classroom that the students can follow. The number one rule should be that if one teacher gives you a response to something, do not go to other teacher and ask the same thing to a different response. The first responses you get always stands. That is something that needs to be address from the beginning, and needs to be effective constantly. Throughout the three months, the co-teachers can meet once a week to discuss any concerns or questions they may have about something that occur in the class, but did not want to address it in front of the students. Each teacher will write down what was discuss and come up with suggestions to whatever concerns that they have. The can used this time to plan lessons and role of each teacher would perform.
