LAN Components for a Small Business
Every business has numerous tasks, from sourcing,
inventory and sales management and even employee management. The effective execution
of such tasks can be difficult to perform. However, using computers and
computer network can increase effectiveness and efficiency (Bridge, 1999). For
instance, a small business in my neighborhood deals in fast moving goods like
consumables, laundry products and utensils. Such a business may need an
internet connection to enable it keep track of the market trends as well as
source products online. Moreover, the business has numerous cashiers and a
warehouse. Having a LAN that connects all the computers with an internet
connection can increase the profitability of such a business. As a consultant
for such a business, I would recommend the following LAN components.
The first component would be category 5 (cat5) cables and switches, these would be used for connecting the computer systems. I will also need bus and star as the network topologies. Since internet connection will be required, I will employ a router as a source in internet connectivity. Moreover, I would need hubs for connecting.……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
